Amazing Break in Ireland

I won a competition to Stay at The Carton House Hotel in Kildare Ireland ( http://www.cartonhouse.com ) back in March and finally took the break earlier this month.
I was lucky enough to get upgraded to a Suite and was told the only bigger ones where the presidential ones.
The grounds where stunning. you have 2 PGA Golf courses. The Montgomery and O`mara courses.
When you arrive you drive through one of the courses and then the Hotel peeps out at you, even in the tail end of a hurricane it looks amazing.
I Dont play golf but my partner and Father in law thought the courses where brilliant and the pictures that I saw didn't disagree.
One of the staff Alison was brilliant and helped me a lot regarding my flight problems. Never use BMI

On her journeys she meets other characters in need and cant help but Help them.
You can watch it for yourself on Nick Jnr every day at 8.15am
It is a very colourful cartoon and very happy. I love the fact that Ruby watches it.

Product Review for Lacura lipgloss from Talk Perfection

I was lucky enough to get picked to blog about this lip Gloss:
I Dont think I will be recommending it as there are better ones on the market at the moment.
I am a bit fickle with Lip glosses and I Dont like them to sticky ( I know it is a lip gloss and is supposed to be sticky)
I just didn't think it was that good

Over All Product Rating: 6

How did the product make you feel: 6

Did the product do what it said it would do: 7
The product done what it said but I thought it was to sticky on the lips and I think there are better glosses out there that make my lips feel better

Would you recommend this product to your friends:
No I dont think I would as I have better Lip glosses already

Rude Staff

I Dont know what it is about staff in Sainsburys but they always feel the need to ask me if im PREGNANT.
I would never dream of asking someone if they was pregnant in case they was just overweight.
Anyway I was at the counter asking for 20 ciggies and she said `What are you expecting a girl or a boy'.
I explained I was not pregnant and she said `Oh its because you looked it'.
I said to her actually I have lost over 6 stone!
What a bloody cheek, I could have said so do you love but im not that rude.
Its gutting as I have just started getting self confidence and thinking that im starting to look quite good and then someone spoils it.
Anyone else had this happen to them?

Hospitals and nearly 6 stone

Well where do I begin?
Im sorry for the lack of posts, but the last few weeks have been kind of mental
I was getting pains in my abdomen and didn't really know what to do, so I spoke to my Mum who advised me to call the on call surgeon at the hospital ( I thought this was over the top, but Mum talked me into it
So when I was getting worse pain the following Day I asked my Mum for the number.
I rang but it went to a voice mail message for a man called Raj!
A few minutes later he called back and I told him what was happening.
He asked me to come to the hospital with an overnight bag JUST IN CASE I had to stay over night.
So off I went with Ruby and my Mum to Charing Cross A & E.
I got there and after around 30 minutes I went through to the A & E ward.
I had and X-ray and waited for Raj.
Mum decided it best to take Ruby away as a Nurse was giving evils (later on she basically said Ruby had to go)
After a few hours they inserted a drip and transferred me into the short stay A & E ward.
After a few more hours Raj came down and basically said they where considering operating on me either later that day or in the morning in case it was a hernia or twisted bowl! (There is me thinking its wind lol)
So I waited and was then told I would have an OP in the morning.
I was then moved to another Short stay Ward.
I got to my ward and the staff nurses where lovely made me feel really welcome.
The next morning I was told I wouldn't have an op that day instead I would have a CT scan.
I had the scan later that day but they couldn't find anything wrong, so they said I would have the camera down my throat on Monday so I would be nil by mouth and we would go from there.
The camera was an awful experience she would sedate me to much and I was aware of everything happening to me, all I can say is I hope I Dont have to do that again.
When Raj can to see me he told me it was not an ulcer and that they would operate on me on the Tuesday and put a camera in to have a look around.
I know its silly but I was kind of excited as I love the sensation fof being put out.
So Tuesday around 1.45pm they came for me, I said bye to my girls in my room and that I would be back soon.
Fast Forward a few hours when I came round. All I can say is OUCH The pain was like nothing I have ever encountered, child birth, the Gastric Bypass not a thing.
I was begging for Morphine ( I never have it it normally makes me sick)
The worst thing was I wasn't expecting to wake up in any pain!
I held my nurses hand and cried like a bitch lol
It was horrendous getting off the plastic hammock thing as I had to move on each side and ask for my drugs lol
I couldn't wait to get back to my ward to let people know I was ok, I called Adam and my mum and then asked to go for a wee. I tried to stand up but it was to painful. I was hysterical and called my mum who then came to the hospital.
A few hours later and I was feeling better and able to go for a wee, but I didnt find out until the next day that they had removed 9-10 cm of my bowl away and sewed up a few holes caused by my weight loss to stop getting any hernias in the future.
I was home the day after the op but needed looking after for nearly 2 weeks.
Nearly 3 weeks later and I am only now starting to feel a little better.
on The plus side I weighed myself last Friday and I am 1ib shy of losing 6 stone woooooo

Monday 18 July 2011

into the Dress and Take That and partying

Well I have lost more wait and finally wore the dress I brought at Christmas. My aim was to wear it for one of the Take That concerts. I waited until the last concert, But I did it I wore it and I think it looked alright.
Regarding the Take That shows, wow they where AMAZING.
I went to 3 in total and was front row for 2 of them.
Yes I am nuts but have waited 20 years to be front row for all 5 at them in Wembley stadium.
It was not a easy task at all, we got to the queue at about 5.00am and the gates didn't open until 5pm lol but it was all
worth it.

Also my mum had her Gastric bypass.
She is doing very well and is complaining that she is hungry,
I Dont understand why but I can see her weight loss already.
I have to say sorry for not blogging as much as I used to but being a busy mummy its hard finding interesting things to blog about.

I am waiting for a few work out bits to arrive so I will do a blog and review after a week or so. The exercising is about to begin.

Have a good week everyone and speak soon

5 Stone!! Yes I have lost 5 bloody stone

Yes that's right, I weighed myself yesterday and I have lost 5 Stone.
I am so happy with how affective this operation has been for me.
I never thought I would lose 5 stone this quick. I must admit the weight loss
has slowed down a lot now and this last stone has taken a while.
I now fit into my skinny jeans (well they are skinny s for me lol)
and where dresses.  (they Dont look as good as I would like yet)
I cannot weight until next summer when I can wear all the things I have
Yearned to wear for as long as I can remember.
The old Layla is starting to come back now and she has been hiding behind rolls of flab for to long.
I will post some newer pictures soon.
I have to say I love it when people comment on my weight loss it gives
me such a buzz, they say how amazing  I'm looking. I was
looking at some old pictures of me at the weekend and could not believe I was looking at myself.
I didn't realise how big I had got (well just didn't admit to myself)
I want to thank everyone for your continuing support and am always here if
anyone has questions.
My Mum goes in for her Gastric Bypass on Tuesday, she is currently on
here 2 week pre op diet and has given up smoking. I am so proud of her.
Speak soon

No weight loss in weeks

Im a bit down as I have not lost any weight in a few weeks now.
I went for my 3 month check up and all is good, just a bit low on vitamin D.
I found out some side effects of the surgery that no one tells you about as well. I have noticed that im losing alot of hair, very similar to after you give birth and start losing hair. I was told this is normal and that it will stop after 6 months. I have also gotten really spotty my nurse said its because of all the changes!

On the plus side, I won a comp with ford for a night at a hotel and also going to the Ford start event.
They had a chef there who cooked bugs and stuff.
I had a few drinks and had gold on my lips lol, met Tim Lovejoy and also tried Lambs testicle (tasted like Chinese sweet and sour balls), meal worm, fungus and salted Ant!!!
Was a great night and will try and post some pictures soon

The Script and Dumping syndrome

So I went to The Script concert last Friday.
We got there about 4 ish in the hope of getting to the front. I decided to have a drink to get myself more in the mood for the concert. So we shared a few bottles of wine.
I managed to get 2nd row centre and met loads of great people.
So I made it to the 9th song, The man that cant be moved (which is my fave)
I began feeling funny like I was gonna poo myself and be sick, then I went really light headed and fainted. In the end I said I needed to be pulled out!
So as they pulled me out the lead singer Danny was sat at the edge of the stage and saw me being hauled out!! How embarrassing lol and I lost a shoe ( I will come back to this later)
So I was taken to the first aide area and they tried forcing me to drink water, I was trying to explain I couldn't down it as my operation.
So me and my one shoe was in a bit of a state, I had to walk half way up the arena to get back in to the concert.
As you can imagine I was a bit of a mess at this stage and it didn't help that one of the stewards asked me if I was expecting!! I pretty much screamed NO I`VE HAD A BLOODY GASTRIC BYPASS AND LOST NEARLY 4 STONE!!!!!
She was a bit taken aback by that!
So I finally got back in and found my mate.
I was told to stand in a certain place by a manager as I had to wait until after the concert to see if my shoe was found.
So this polish steward decided to start shouting at me, getting in my face and threatening to throw me out if I didn't go to the back. I tried to explain I was told to wait there as I had lost my shoe.
A fight even broke out next to me but the steward didn't even notice as he was to interested threatening me. If I didn't have to wait for my shoe I would have left!
A guy who was about 6ft 7 came along and the steward never said a word grrr.
Anyway long story short I got my shoe back lol but beware of Wembley and the Stewards there.
So im nearly half way to my ideal weight and my weight loss is going well.
When I think back just a month ago is hard to register that I was feeling so different.
I am so glad I had this operation now. Im still finding bits hard and have had alot of sickness but is is so worth it.
I even dyed my hair red lol
Anyway I will blog again soon and will contact the winner of the comp tomorrow.
Still waiting for the tickets to arrive x

13lbs in one week wowzer

Wow, So I weighed myself last week on Tuesday after swimming and I had put on a pound!
How did that happen I wondered, I tried to blame my period and the fact that I had wet hair still.
I must admit I was extremely disappointed as I had my operation to lose weight not put it on!
So I put it to the back of my mind and carried on with the rest of my week. I have started eating food again now but it keeps getting stuck, I had been sick quite a few times :(
Anyway it was either Friday or Saturday that I decided to weigh myself again, so I went into Boots and used my normal machine. I could not believe it when it said I had lost 13lbs! Well I can tell you I was over the moon.
I feel im on the road now both emotionally and physically to recover.
Its hard to believe that 6 weeks ago I had a GASTRIC BYPASS and that I feel practically back to normal again.
If anyone was to ask me If I would do it all over again the answer would be yes.
I have got out of my rut and am feeling so much better.
I brought a pair of Reebok easytone aswell just to give myself a boost and must say I love them. They make me about an inch taller and it really doesnt feel like I am doing anything but walking. They are so cosy, I would recommend them.
I will update you with my new weight in the next few days, I havent managed to weigh myself yet.
Have a lovely week peeps (Or should I say Gail, I think you are the only one who reads this blog lol)

I found this while browsing the net and think it may help anyone thinking of having bariatric surgery in the future

Fed up with being ill

Well what can I say, Im fed up of being sick lol
In the last 2 weeks I have been sick more times than I have in the last year.
I think it is because im eating or drinking to much.
I have stopped blending everything now and just make sure that I chew more than ever.
It is getting easier, I even went out on Saturday night.
I had 2 small glasses of wine which was yummy and I swiped some of Adams Nachos.
It was Adams birthday and my mother in-laws party.
I didn't touch the Birthday cake (the 2nd time I have been around birthday cake in 2 days)
I felt good and I am starting to notice how much weight I have lost. I am becoming narrower and the top I was wearing was 4 sizes smaller than I would normally even attempt to wear. The legging where 5 sizes smaller.
I am getting narrower now and now fit on the picadilly line seats without the seats digging into me.
I know now the weight im losing is fat and not water and everyday im getting closer to my goal of being slimmer and healthier.
I am going to get some photos done soon and start documenting my weight loss in pictures as well as words.
I will be going swimming next week as well if my cold clears up, It will be the first time my daughter Ruby has ever been swimming, I would never take her before as I was so ashamed of my body.
Its funny as now I show the scars on my stomach to people and Dont really care. before I had Ruby and the Operation I would never have done this.
Its funny how popular this operation has become.
As I have already stated if you or anyone is thinking or due to have the operation I am hear if you want advice or have any questions.
Alot of people think this operation is the easy option but it isn't.
Anyway im signing off now.
Also just want to thank Gail for all your support, it means alot xx

Monday 21 February 2011

Still here

God this is hard, I thought it would be easy after the operation but it is so much Harder.
On the plus side, I have had my stitches out for nearly a week and as of last Tuesday I have lost 2 stone.
Luckily my mum and other half have helped out.
Last Sunday I had a little mini breakdown. I just became really emotional and my Mum took Ruby home with her so I could clear my head.
So Tuesday I had my stitches out and that was such a relief, they had started getting really uncomfortable.
It was also nice to see the lady who also had a gastric bypass the same time as me. (I wont name her as she wants to be private)
Turns out she had got emotional to lol.
I have also started noticing my weight loss which is a boost. I have became narrower and lost a lot of weight from my face.
I must say that being on a liquid diet was hard! Every other advert seems to be related to food, especially as it was coming up to Valentines day so it was all the offers. I also fine this purée diet hard, I just want to chew on a carrot but that wont happen for another 7 weeks, trust me im counting lol.
I also had my first experience of dumping syndrome.
I was silly and ate some ice cream. within 30 minutes I was feeling really sick and was sick.
Its stopped me from eating Ice Cream again....
I will update again soon but my time is scarce at the moment as my little monster as hit the terrible twos

Monday 7 February 2011

The Aftermath

OUCH OUCH OUCH
What can I say the pain is unbearable with the gastric bypass surgery.
I arrived at the hospital at 7.20am and waited in the waiting lounge.
There was 4 of us 2 bands and 2 bypass`s.
I was originally 1st on the list but was swapped to 3rd so the ladies with the bands could get it done 1st as they go home the same day.
I was still excited and not at all nervous.
Slowly the time was getting nearer. Luckily I was having a giggle wit my partner Adam and the other lady who was having the bypass. I will call her jen.
So at 10.40 it was time to go up to theatre, I got changed into my hospital gown and said my goodbyes.
I didn't realise how much I loved Adam until I had to say Goodbye and the slight feeling that if something went wrong I would never see him again.
So off me and the nurse went to the 14th floor and to a room.
Through the doors was the theatre and they where finishing off the lady who had the band.
It was quite frightening being in that situation but my nurse too my mind off it.
So I waiting around 30 mins until the antistatic Uri arrived, I then got on the bed and they put in the drip needle.
Jen had said to me look at the time when they give you the antistatic. It was 11.21am.
I came round a few hours later in so much pain and just wanting to be sick. I was so out of it.
They had given me morphine and it made me feel so sick.
I couldn't believe the pain, I would say it was worse than child birth and that is one thing you are not warned about.
That night I hardly slept due to the pain. At 4am I was just laying in bed crying.
I have to say the nurses, doctors and surgeons are all wonderful at charing cross and they made me as comfortable as possible. I was offered Morphine but as it makes me feel so sick I decided to deal with the pain.
The next morning I walked round to see Jen. I am so glad I had her as we each boosted each other when we where feeling down.
Adam brought Ruby to see me today and having my little girl there made me feel much better.
That night I had a good sleep.
Sunday was home time. I have to say I was sad to go home as they done such a good job looking after me.
Sunday in my own bed with my family around me was perfect. Again I had a good night sleep.
Monday/Today I am not really in pain. I have taken all the dressing off my wounds to air them.
Adam is just getting my medication and lunch ready now, chicken soup yummy.
Will write again soon. sorry for the wait guys and thanks for your support

Wednesday 2 February 2011

Not Long to go

Well not that long left until I go in for my op.
Im surprised That I am still not nervous but just excited, I suppose it will all hit me Friday morning.
I've told my Mum that If something goes wrong and I become ill, I Dont want them to keep me alive if I am not
able to live the way I do now.
I also want Pray and I found heaven by Take That at my funeral lol.
In all seriousness though I know things can go wrong and I hope it doesn't.
Dont forget the comp ends tomorrow.
I will send the prize out early next week to the winner when I get out of Hospital.
Speak soon peeps

The Diet

As promised I am going to share my diet with you.
This may be a boring read for some of you, so I will type it in green if you want to skip lol.

The diet is designed to give you approximately 100g of carbohydrate per day. It is low in fat (although the extent to which will depend on the foods chosen) and moderate in protein. The energy value of the diet is between 800-1000 Kcal. The following sample menu shows you what a typical day`s intake may include.

As you can see it is a very limited menu and I was used to eating alot of chocolate and sweet foods!
I have to give alcohol up for a year also.

Im feeling good though, and I visited my Mum today.
She will be having the same operation on March 8th 2011.
I also saw a very good friend and grumbled that I was hungry. They told me when you feel hunger pains you are losing weight :0)
I am confident I am going to succeed in this Diet.

2 weeks today I will have had my operation. I feel like my life is going to be transformed and am beyond excited.
My only vice is that im still smoking. Im doing my breathing exercises and believe that im in top shape lol.

I also spoke about the reason I am this size.
When I was growing up I was thin and my legs where like pins, but I had a little belly.
I was teased and bullied for years being called names such as Fat orphan, permanently pregnant and even Ethiopian ( this was during a famine so they where skinny with bloated bellies)
I think this is why I am big (I dont want to make excuses) I just thought `sod it` they call me fat so I may as well get fat.
I have tried all the diets and lost a few stone on weight watchers, but as the same as most I put it back on plus more.
This is the biggest I have ever been and will ever be. Because in a fortnight I will have had the bypass.
Anyway Im going to finish now as I need to enter my comps lol.
I will write some more in a few days.

About me

Where do I begin?
My name is Layla and I am overweight!
I am a Mum of one who enjoys eating vast amount of bad foods including chocolate and cakes!
I never lost weight after giving Birth, the weight just continued to go on and on and on.
So my mum suggested Bariatric surgery.
She had gone to the dentist and had spoken to the receptionist, who was rather slimmer than in recent times.
So my mum asked her what she had done to lose all her weight.
Later that day Mum booked an appointment with her doctor.
She called me and suggested I ask my doctor, so I also booked an appointment.
We both got referred to the hospital and from there the story begins.
The whole process up to date has taken around 9 - 10 months.
I first went to a group session where we meet a dietitian, the surgeon etc..
The whole session latest a few hours and towards the end of the session a few post op patients came in and told there stories.
One had a sleeve, one band and one bypass.
I had gone there thinking I wanted a band, but changed my mind after speaking to the post ops.
I opted for the sleeve or by pass.
After that you have to get bloods, ECG, see doctors, psychiatrist etc.
After doing all this I have finally got my operation date.
I will be going in on Friday 4Th February and I cant wait.
I got the confirmation call this morning and now it all seems real.
The reason I am writing this blog is so that people going through surgery can relate to this.
I couldn't really find anyone's story of what it is like so I hope to be as honest and open as possible.
I have to start my pre op diet in a few days and part of me cant wait to tackle it and part of me is really scared.
After reading a popular woman's mag last week I was mortified to read a women's story, not because it scared me but all the lies she told.
Like the day before her op she went to her local kebab shop kebab and ordered the biggest kebab they had ever made and set her alarm so she could wake in the night and finish it. complete b"llocks!!!
As I said, you have a strict diet that you have to adhere to. You need to shrink your Liver so a lot of foods are off limits or very limited.
Also you have to fast as your going to be put to sleep for the op.
They have warned me, if I cheat they wont do the op as before they start the surgery, they will insert a camera to check my liver, if I cheat my liver will be fat and they wont operate, they will simply wake me up and send me home.
So there you have it.
I hope if you choose to carry on reading you enjoy my journey.
Please comment and ask me anything you wish.
I will try to be as open and honest as I can.
I will update soon on my diet.
